Summer Shakespeare Festival: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged

8:00 PM (May 5, 12, 13, and 26), 7:00 PM (May 7, 14, 21)

The Carriage House Players will open the Vanderbilt Museum’s 34th annual Summer Shakespeare Festival on Friday, May 5, at 8:00 pm with a comedy, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. The season’s four productions will take place on the stage in the Mansion’s beautiful Spanish Revival Courtyard.

Festival-goers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy it on the grounds before the play.

In The Complete Works, three Shakespeare enthusiasts attempt to do the impossible: Act their way through all of the Bard’s 37 plays in one night. This highly improvisational comedy, which enjoyed a nine-year run in London’s West End, retells the Bard’s great works, often poorly, through improvisation, rap, simulated sports games, audience participation, and sheer force of will.

As the play progresses, it becomes clear that these actors are perhaps not the Shakespearean experts they appear to be. They comedically stumble their way through the complete works of William Shakespeare in a hilarious race against the clock, and what they don’t remember, they simply make up on the spot!
